Monthly plans for primary school
Some schools plan by the month rather than the fortnight: one short-term plan per subject covering roughly four teaching weeks. The content is the same as a fortnightly plan (strands, learning outcomes, activities, differentiation, assessment) with a longer horizon, and it pairs naturally with the Cuntas Míosúil, which looks back over exactly the same period.
The plan and the record are the same information
A monthly plan says what you intend to cover; the Cuntas Míosúil says what you covered. Written separately, you do the same cross-referencing twice. Written as one living document, the plan becomes the record: teach, mark what happened, and the month-end write-up is mostly done.
Keeping a month honest
Four weeks is long enough for a plan to drift. Build in a mid-month check: what has actually been taught, which outcomes haven't been touched, what needs to move. Ten minutes halfway saves the end-of-month surprise.
