Multigrade planning without double the paperwork
Teaching two or three class levels in one room is normal across much of Ireland, but most planning formats assume one class. The multigrade teacher ends up merging learning outcomes across bands by hand, writing parallel plans for the same lesson slot, and producing a Cuntas Míosúil that has to speak for every level in the room.
What actually works
Plan the room, not the register. One timetable, one lesson slot per subject, with the outcomes for each class level attached to that slot and differentiation carrying the split. Common themes with level-specific outcomes keep the room together; three separate schemes taught simultaneously keep nobody together.
The record has to match
At month end, the Cuntas Míosúil should show what each class level covered without you writing the month twice. If your planning system can't separate the levels back out of a shared lesson, the write-up becomes the longest evening of the month.
Less admin, same teaching
